Save Spinney Woods, Aylesham

We the undersigned petition the council to re-instate the Tree Protection Order TPO/76/00003 for Spinney Woods, also known as Aylesham Woods, Aylesham.

This TPO dates from 1976 and for 49 years has protected these woods from development and in that time the wood has been successfully managed by White Cliffs Countryside Partnership on behalf of Aylesham Parish Council. Only one reason exists for removing a TPO and that is so trees can be felled without recourse to a planning application. We feel that the planning application 25/00133 means that widening of Spinney Lane or the Wingham Road may be necessary and we fear we will lose part of the wood instead of using the farmland on the other side. It's obvious that the land either side of Spinney Woods comes under the jurisdiction of Canterbury City Council and this would make planning applications harder. Use the farmland if necessary but leave our wood alone. For generations they've provided pleasure for the children, and adults, of the village and for many visitors to the wood. Leave Spinney Woods alone.

On reaching 20 signatures and having passed the closing date for the e-petition, it will be referred to the Overview and Scrutiny Committee for consideration in accordance with the Council's adopted Petition Scheme. The Petition Organiser will be advised the date of the meeting of the Overview and Scrutiny Committee where the e-petition will be received and will have up to 10 minutes to present their e-petition to the members of the Committee.

This e-petition runs from 17/03/2025 to 29/04/2025.

327 people have signed this e-petition.
